Major: Chemistry (This Major's Salary over time)
I have finished one semester a the college (still in my freshmen year) and so far I like the college. Most of the social scene revolves around sports teams/fraternities, but as a freshmen guy, you will be allowed in to parties the first couple of weeks to meet people, and (as long as a couple females acompany you) most parties will be open. All the professors I have had are very engaging and supportive, but the required "First-year seminar" (freshmen is supposedly anti-feminist) is somewhat pointless, besides seeing how your writing skills are. As far as the surrounding city goes, it is the county seat, so there are plenty of opportunities to do stuff, and the main downtown is only about a 5 minute walk. The dorm situation is kind of a craps shoot. If you choose to live in a "learning community" you have a better chance at living in the newly renovated dorms (which are the only ones tours go through), but the other dorms there vary, with all being inhabitable, but Atwater and Armstrong being the worst (these will soon be renovated to be like Davidson-Wilson and Baird-McClintock). There is a new science building opening in 2008, which will house all of the sciences, and the campus is held in very good shape (except for the really bad mowing jobs the do in some sections). The Library is awesome and you can study abroad in many different countries; however, this is somewhat difficult to do if you are a science major, but still feasible. Overall I am happy with the school. I recommend introdcuing yourslef like crazy the first couple of weeks to make as many acquaintances as possible, and look at the Jive-Turkeys (Ultimate) if you're not in a varsity sport (a crazy fun bunch).
